If you really want to feel the city move, don’t go downtown—come see the University District, Spokane during morning commute. That’s when the City Line glides by Catalyst, the bikes zip by Riverpoint Blvd, and the students flow across Gateway Bridge like clockwork. It’s a rhythm that locals know by heart, the daily choreography of a neighborhood built for motion.

Near our apartments in Spokane, navigating from point A to point B (and C, and D) is easier than you think. Once you get the hang of the many public transport options and smart street layouts, you won’t have to think twice about simplifying commuting in Spokane. Walking to meetings, pedaling to class, hopping on a bus to lunch, or driving via E Spokane Blvd becomes second nature pretty fast.

This is your guide to getting around the University District like you’ve always lived here. So, grab your sneakers or start that engine, because every route tells a story.

The U-District Layout

Spokane’s University District feels easy to navigate, with walkable and bikeable areas, as well as landmarks that practically guide you through its streets.

Let’s talk geographical boundaries. The Burlington Northern rail line and I‑90 form a firm southern edge—you’ll notice the district really stops there. Division St separates the neighborhood from downtown, and to the east, the Spokane River and SR 290 create a clear border. Towards the north, the U-District subtly fades into quiet, residential homes.

Everything in the district is tightly interwoven, so we’re going to break down key streets and campuses to know before diving into bus routes and walkability scores.
